I can’t tell you how many times guys tell me that they don’t use or don’t want sunscreen. Their argument is often that the scent will be on your hands and get on your lures. With everything we know about skin cancer, this is unacceptable to me. First, we have conventional sunscreen. If you put it on before you start fishing and wash your hands the scent will be gone before you start fishing. This will not get you through an entire day. Second, we have spray on sunscreen. The spray never touches your hands and can be applied several times a day without much effort. Finally, there is UV protective clothing including light weight long sleeved shirts, head and neck covers, and even gloves. In this day and age there is no reason to come over the water sun burnt and in discomfort. Remember to do this in cold weather as well. It is the most common time to get burnt because you can’t tell until it is too late.
